Venus Optics has just released a new and improved version of its Laowa 15mm f/4.5R Zero-D Shift lens. This TIPA Awards-winning lens is ideal for architecture, interior, landscapes and cityscapes, and it now gives you more options and creative choices than before. The new Laowa 15mm f/4.5R Zero-D Shift differs from its predecessor mainly in the number of aperture blades. There are nearly three times more of them now – the old version had only five, and the new one has as many as 14.
This is the widest shift lens you’ll find for full-frame cameras, and it’s still relatively cheap considering the specs. The original version was first announced in 2020, and it did pretty well in our review. As I mentioned, the new version has 14 aperture blades instead of five, which gives you softer bokeh and softer and subtler sunstars. It’s also a bit different on the outside, with a red ring instead of blue to note the new version of the lens.
The rest of the specs is the same as in the previous version. With the Laowa 15mm f/4.5R Zero-D Shift, you get virtually no distortion (that’s what “zero-D” stands for). The maximum possible shift amount of the lens is ±11mm for full-frame cameras and ±8mm for medium format cameras like Fujifilm GFX or Hasselblad X1D. And yeah, this lens covers the medium format as well as full-frame and APS-C sensors. It’s available in eight different mounts: Canon EF, Canon RF, Nikon F, Nikon Z, Sony E, Pentax K, Leica L mount, and Fujifilm G.
